Bad Karma

I didn't think that I was necessarily gloating in this post but perhaps may have been overly enthusiastic about telling people what a great little sleeper Lucy was. And was is the magic word here because she certainly isn't sleeping so well these day. Is this karma coming back to hit me in my sleepy head?

It all started in December with the craziness of the holidays throwing off her schedule, new teeth, the excitement of crawling and cruising, double ear infections followed by roseola, and another cold followed by a second ear infection. Just when we're getting over the second ear infection from the beginning of March (but which probably started the end of February but mom was too stupid to bring her to the doctor right away), she cuts a new tooth. This past weekend, she gets a fever so it was home-bound again on Saturday and Sunday (although I will admit, we went out to eat at Chipotle on Saturday night and to Borders for a book but it was after the ibuprofen kicked in and she was feeling a bit better).

A visit to the doctor yesterday confirmed that the fever wasn't caused by another ear infection but just some virus, probably a cold and even though I thought that the fever had broken that morning, it was back up to 101.9. Contagious - yes. So I guess that means I won't be babysitting my 2 month old niece this week who is sleeping 12 hours a night when my sister goes back to work (I remember when Lucy slept 12 hours a night...). Congestion and runny nose also started yesterday so pediatrician says not to be surprised if it develops into another ear infection! That would be the third one if it does. Thanks goodness we have good insurance for all these doctor visits.

Trying to look on the bright side here - we had a good excuse to skip out on church on Sunday and watched movies all day while Lucy cuddled up to us. But it's hard to overlook how fussy she has been and last night was the worst - nursing wasn't comforting her and she was up a lot - crying. Don't know if she is frustrated because she can't sleep because she can't breathe or if maybe she is already developing the ear infection or if she is cutting another tooth. Who knows with babies - it's all a guessing game to me. I can't go to the gym with her sick so we're stuck at home this week. It's almost April, people! Can I just get two consecutive nights of good sleep!
